How much does Locks Of Love charge
While there might be some misconceptions surrounding it, Locks Of Love lives up to its words and doesn’t charge a single penny for the hairpieces. The organization was made with the aim of reaching out to impoverished children suffering from long-term hair loss and putting a smile on their faces. This is because the price of hairpieces is extremely high. So the wigs they make are given to the children who apply for free.
Some people think that the $1000 mentioned on the Locks of Love website is the amount they charge for the hair. It is less than the retail value of hairpieces, which is usually $3500 to $4000, but still a lot. Actually, $1000 is not the price they charge the families for the hairpieces, but rather the manufacturing cost they bear.
However, there are certain situations when Locks of Love might ask the family to contribute to offset the cost of production of the prosthesis. This is when the family exceeds the financial guidelines, as in, their financial condition is above the maximum level Locks of Love is willing to cover. Such families can also get their wigs, but at a small price.
When was Locks Of Love founded?
Locks of Love was established on May 28, 1997. Ever since then, it has worked tirelessly to make itself accessible and approachable to impoverished families who have children suffering from long-term medical losses. The name “Locks of Love spread quite quickly because it was such a noble initiative, and all the hairpieces they provided were and still are completely free. More and more hair donation campaigns started to form all over the country.
How did Locks Of Love start?
The story of how Locks of Love started is bittersweet. The organization’s founder, Madonna W. Coffman, started this organization to reduce the number of children who faced the same thing that she herself did. Madonna was a registered nurse, and she was a patient of alopecia, which is a chronic hair loss disease. She was only twenty when she started losing all her hair.
But that’s not what prompted her to start this organization. It was when her daughter was also diagnosed with alopecia and lost all her hair at the age of only four. Seeing what her daughter went through, Madonna realized that there are many other children suffering from premature hair loss, who feel like they will never be pretty. To help them out, especially poor children, Locks Of Love was founded.

Does Locks Of Love accept beard hair?
Unfortunately, no. Even assuming that your beard is more than 10 inches long, there is no way to use it for making a wig that will be worn on hair. The texture of facial hair is different from scalp hair, so even if a wig is made, it’s not going to look good. Locks Of Love can only make use of hair from the head, as the hairpieces will be made for kids. However, there are plenty of organizations where you can donate your beard hair.
Does Locks Of Love sell wigs for cancer patients?
Locks of Love provides free wigs to impoverished children suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatment. Not all cancer patients can receive a wig from Locks of Love. Only children from low-income families experiencing the common side effects of the treatment will be eligible.
