Does your stylist or barber have an apprentice?
Matt told me that whether or not the stylist has an apprentice says some significant details about them. For example, if a hairstylist has an apprentice, it could mean-
- They are busy enough to need an apprentice, which means a lot of people are booking them.
- They have stayed in the particular salon for long enough.
- They are also capable of making a client come back again.
- Clients coming back shows that the stylist has done a pretty good job, I mean, after all, clients are returning. Always a good sign.
A hairstyle needing an apprentice means they’re popular enough to be so busy that they need some extra hands to help out. And, of course, a stylist won’t get popular among salon visitors if there isn’t some magic in their hands. It is likely that all of this traffic must warrant the use of extraordinary salon products. Should you ask questions before booking an appointment with your hair professional?
It’s good to call the salon and have a chat with them while booking the assignment. During this chat, there are some important questions that you can ask to confirm whether the kind of stylist you’re looking for is there or not, and also whether the stylist is good or not. These questions can be-
- Can I get a senior stylist? Emphasis on the senior because that typically means that the stylist is more experienced and has been on the job longer.
- Do you have a stylist who can do [the cut/treatment] for [the type of your hair]? This is a common question that you must ask before making the appointment. You should definitely ask whether the stylist can do the specific haircut or hair treatment for your specific type of hair (size, texture, shape, volume, etc.).
- How long has the stylist been at the salon? This is a beneficial question because it signifies two things about a stylist- 1) they are consistent and not jumping around from salon to salon, as well as that 2) they are very reliable and loyal to their work and workplace. Stability in any profession can usually prove that the person is skilled, focused, and experienced.
- How far are they booked from the clients? A stylish who has been booked for most of the calendar, starting from days, weeks, and even months back, is a successful stylist. It shows that they have been around long enough in the salon to acquire that much clientele to be booked.
Does you barber or stylist want to improve their hair knowledge?
Usually, once a hairstylist receives the license, it isn’t mandatory for them to seek additional education and training to keep their license. So if they seek extra education of their own will, it is a sign that they want to improve more.
It shows that they truly enjoy hair styling as a profession and want to learn more techniques to get better at it. They are sincere at their job.
Does your hair Stylist or barber even care?
A good hairstylist signifies that they will seek perfection and the highest level of client satisfaction. They will not only ask you what hairstyle you want, but they will also go into more in-depth questions to get an insight about what exactly you’re looking for and what exactly is best for you.
If they ask you questions ranging from which hairstyle worked out for you in the past, which hairstyle didn’t, how long you plan to keep the style, whether you’re styling for a specific occasion, and all such things, that is usually a very good sign.
Getting asked a lot of questions might feel a bit annoying, but it is just the effort of a good hairstylist to deliver the best thing for you. It shows that they are sincere in their work and don’t want to make any mistakes.
Why are you creeping on your barbers social media?
A lot of salons these days have their own official social media pages to promote their salons. Usually, they post different pictures of different kinds of hairstyles and hair treatments and the stylist’s name who did it.
By going through their posts, you can check out if they have a stylist who can do the job you want for your own hair. You can also determine whether the stylist is good at the job from the photos.
This makes things much more convenient, doesn’t it? Especially if, just like me, you’re bad at talking with strangers on the phone for a long time!
